Family comes forward to claim dead body

SANDRINGHAM – The man was buried last weekend in Zimbabwe.


The family of a dead man who was recently found along the N3 Highway on the Marlboro and London off-ramps has finally come forward after weeks of searching.

The story was published in the North Eastern Tribune in the article Man’s next of kin sought [Week ending 24 May].

According to a spokesperson for the Sandringham police Captain Mohlaume Mamabolo, details surrounding his death still, remain sketchy because there are no witnesses.

The man was found lying on the side of the highway by a passerby who then alerted the police. He was badly injured when he was found and was taken to the nearby Edenvale Hospital where he later died.

Mamabolo said a family member visited the station after reading the article in the Tribune and she was referred to Germiston mortuary to identify the body.

“We are still not clear what the cause of his injuries was, but the family has come forward and identified him.

“The deceased is a Zimbabwean national, and he was buried last weekend. Police investigation still continues to establish the cause of his injuries that subsequently led to his death.”

Mamabolo said police are investigating a case of murder, and request anyone who might have witnessed the incident to contact the police.
