Cindy Alter kicks off Between 2 Cacti with musical journey spanning decades
JOBURG – Cindy Alter kicks off Between 2 Cacti: A Musical Journey, a brand-new concept series of events and intimate storyteller evenings honouring the lives and music of South African icons.
Through Between 2 Cacti: A Musical Journey, a brand-new concept series of events and intimate storyteller evenings, FransKaroo and Kerry-Anne Allerston pay tribute to the lives and music of South African icons – individuals who have inspired the nation over the last few decades.
With the aim to document their lives and celebrate their immense contribution to the South African music industry and beyond, the events are slated to take place once a month and feature renowned South African artists.
“Between 2 Cacti is a homage to big spirits in the South African music industry in a warm, comfortable and cosy atmosphere. It’s a rare opportunity to sit in the presence of greatness. To listen to the valleys and mountain tops that shaped some of our legends. It’s more about the person and their story than it is just about their music. It’s in-depth. It’s unique. It’s personal. Think of a fire place in a cabin by the lake while you’re listening to one of your heroes sharing some of their highs and lows,” FransKaroo said.
The first episode took place at CaleXico Vinyl Lounge and Restaurant and featured legendary singer, songwriter and guitarist, Cindy Alter. The former front-lady of chart-topping and multi-million-album selling band, Clout, took the audience on a musical journey spanning decades – from the highs and lows of being a woman in the music industry and her plans to take on a tour of Europe later this year.
“Often we don’t know the back story of where our favourite musicians came from and what it took to get them to where they are today. These unique sessions will shed light on their journey and they will perform their favourite songs as well as their hits,” said Allerston.
There is a set menu chosen by the artist for the night, and the evenings feature a two-part interview and performances by the artist, with a strict no-noise policy during the interview portions due to filming.
“Once the artists are no longer with us their stories will be available to fans, friends and family to appreciate and cherish for years to come and it is not lost with them,” Allerston said.
Spaces are limited, so be sure to be a part of these special evenings by booking your tables in advance for a night of music, food and great company.
