Food stall goes up in flames at Wanderers taxi rank – fire under control

JOBURG – There were different reports of where the fire was but MMC for public safety confirmed that part of Wanderer's taxi rank was engulfed in smoke, the fire is under control.

There had been various reports that Johannesburg Park Station was on fire and at some stage Transnet was on fire, but it was neither of the two as MMC for Public Safety Micheal Sun confirmed that a small part of Wanderer’s taxi rank went up in flames.

Sun clarified, “A food stall in Wanderer’s taxi rank caught fire, we believe that a stove used by one of the food sellers caught [alight], it must have caught some of the plastic and engulfed the tent. It was not a major fire,  the EMS was on the scene and an ambulance dispatched. The fire is under control.”

There were no injuries or fatalities reported.
