Johannesburg Central Police commemorate Drug Awareness Day
JOHANNESBURG – The campaign aims to reduce drugs in the streets and raise awareness about its dangers to the community.
Johannesburg Central Police Station, in partnership with various organisations, embarked on an anti-drugs awareness campaign on 26 June
The campaign was led by Foundation for a Drug-Free World and, along with community patrollers, they distributed anti-drugs booklets to Joburg communities.
They visited transport facilities such as the Bree Taxi Rank, MTN Taxi Rank better known as Noord and proceeded to the Fontana SPAR before ending at the Hillbrow Police Station.
Police also reached out to the displaced people in the Johannesburg CBD and sent a strong warning to drug peddlers saying their day will soon come.
According to the acting spokesperson for the Johannesburg Central Police Station Constable Constance Lelimo, it was a successful campaign which forms part of annual International Drug Awareness Day (26 June).
Lelimo said, “The intention is to reduce abuse of substances and drug abuse in our communities and basically to raise awareness.
“This campaign is also aimed at reducing crime in the form of domestic violence because most criminal cases related to domestic violence implicate suspects who have, in most cases, consumed drugs or substances.”
