DJ Fresh makes TV cameo while SABC impasse lingers on

Over the past few weeks there has been some uncertainty around radio personality, DJ Fresh’s future at Metro FM following an incident where the DJ’s unfortunate choice of words on air pushed the SABC to take him off the air for two weeks while the national broadcaster was investigating with the Broadcast Complaints Commission of SA (BCCSA).

In a statement released by DJ Fresh, the impasse between him and the SABC transpired when the broadcaster requested that in addition to the two weeks off air, a public apology and a further three weeks off the air, Fresh would resume work on 15 July. However, Fresh said he was awaiting confirmation.

“I have been working on radio since 1992 and my passion for it has grown by the day. I have formed bonds with listeners and have loved watching my career grow,” DJ Fresh said.

Contrary to reports, DJ Fresh said he offered to apologise unreservedly two weeks ago and acknowledged that while he had memorable moments on air, he also had mishaps.

“While my choice of words have not always been correct, I speak from the heart and keep it authentic. I would like to be back on air but I don’t know when that will be,” he said.

While the impasse lingers on, DJ Fresh made a cameo on the popular morning show, Breaking Dawn on 405, on the newly launched Newzroom Afrika channel following an invitation by host Sizwe Dhlomo.
