Hursthill reservoir pipe burst causes water outages in surrounding areas
NORTHCLIFF – The reservoir feeds multiple areas around Northcliff, Melville, Emmarentia to Hyde Park leaving some areas with no water.
Many residents in areas around Emmarentia, Northcliff, Sophiatown to Parkview experienced low water pressure to no water after Hursthill reservoir pipe burst in the afternoon of 11 July.
Johannesburg Water confirmed that Hursthill reservoir 1 and 2 had a pipe burst, ‘on the inlet 600mm pipe which is affecting supply and residents should start experiencing low pressure.”
Water tankers are available at Westdene, Melville and Sophiatown, technicians were sent to the scene to repair the damage.

The reservoir was half opened to slowly build capacity if it was fully opened bursts would occur, Joburg Water informed residents. “We appeal to all residents to use water sparingly until the water levels improve.”
