Suspects nabbed for various offenses in Johannesburg

JOHANNESBURG – All the suspects are expected to appear in different magistrates' courts to face different charges.


Johannesburg Flying Squad police have arrested 18 suspects for different crimes during their routine patrols over the last weekend, 5 and 8 July, in various parts of Johannesburg.

According to the Flying Squad spokesperson senior personnel officer Raymond Sambo, officers also recovered reported stolen cars as well as unlicensed firearms and ammunition

Sambo said that amongst the 18 suspects arrested, six was for possession of stolen property and one for rape and one was for common assault. “The police also arrested one suspect for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and another one for possession of a jamming device.

“There were four other suspects who were arrested for possession of hijacked vehicles and three others were held for possession of a stolen vehicle. Members also arrested one suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm, a 9mm Browning pistol with ammunition.”

He said the vehicles recovered include a white Toyota Verso, a white Toyota Etios, a white VW Polo and a white VW Golf which were reported stolen and they also recovered a grey Mercedes Benz and a white Renault sedan that were hijacked.

Sambo concluded that the investigations are ongoing and all the suspects, aged between 25 and 40, are expected to appear in different magistrates’ courts soon to face different charges.
