Nelson Makamo chops it up with Trevor Noah on The Daily Show
JOBURG – Nelson Makamo chats with Trevor Noah about his hopeful portrayals of South African children and global inspirations.
Acclaimed visual artist, Nelson Makamo, stopped by The Daily Show this week for a candid chat with host, Trevor Noah.
In the interview, Makamo talks about his hopeful portrayals of South African children and reflects on why his work has struck a universal chord that transcends nationality.
“I take the very same inspiration that I’ve actually drawn globally, combine it and put it in the art work as well,” Makamo said.

Makamo’s work is powerfully influenced by the candid innocence of children as he is particularly drawn to children in rural South Africa. He said he believed that they embody the peace and harmony we all strive for in life, the search for eternal joy lies in the child within us all, and we are just so consumed with worldly things that we forget the simplicity of life through a child’s perspective.

Earlier this year, Makamo opened his solo exhibition in Paris, France. Officially opened on 29 May and running until 27 July, Makamo has his new body of work on show at the Loo & Lou Gallery in Paris.
