Community urged to take on the #JacobsLadderChallenge at the iconic Bidvest Wanderers Stadium

JOBURG – Mishka Nair, a biokineticist intern at the Wanderers Sports Medical Centre, urges community members to take on the #JacobsLadderChallenge and get fit.

The Wanderers Sports Medical Centre has urged the community to take on the #JacobsLadderChallenge if they seriously believe they have what it takes.

The challenge was issued by Mishka Nair, a biokineticist intern at the centre, who is currently heading this year’s challenge and is encouraging everyone to visit the centre and take on the challenge for free.

Unlike treadmills or stair-climbers which are usually motorised, the rungs of the Jacobs Ladder are a self-propelled, and is a continuous climbing treadmill so the climber sets the pace which provides for a faster heart rate and high-intensity workout.

The ladder is set at a 40-degree angle, ideal for a low-impact workout, relieving the stress and pressure to the lower back and hips. The 40-degree angle is a natural climbing position for many aerial operations, and at this angle there is low impact on all the joints while allowing for a long and dynamic climbing stroke to ensure a full range of motion workout.

A belt is worn with an attached cable that controls the resistance mechanism. The higher you climb up the ladder, the more the resistance is decreased. So, the higher you go, the faster you go. The challenge has been gaining a lot of traction on social media as various people get to challenge each other.

“The Jacobs Ladder challenges the entire body in every plane of motion and pushes people to the limit whether you are an athlete or not. Already we have a 12-year-old girl who is on top of the leader board leading the challenge,” Nair said.
