17 January: Living Jazz Giants Project

Collaboration Concepts Productions announced Andile Yenana & Khaya Mahlangu as the artists to be featured in the Jazz Giants Project staged at John Kani Theatre space. The live recordings will be on the 17 and 18 January and tickets are available at www.webtickets.co.za for R150.

18 January: Secret Underground Storytelling Dinner

The Secret Underground Storytelling Dinner is a magical evening of storytelling combined with delectable food and drinks. 18 January 2020 will be memorable evening in the city that will leave you mesmerized by the story of a city rebuilt six times in 13 decades! As well as the history of Somerset House – a 1904 bank building, recently re-purposed into the Thunder Walker. Presented by JoburgPlaces at its Thunder Walker venue on Gandhi Square. 18 January: Blessing Ngobeni – Study Song of Chicotte

Check out Study Song of Chicotte, an exhibition of prints by Blessing Ngobeni at Everard Read Gallery. This new series of hand-coloured linocuts is based on Blessing Ngobeni’s 2016 exhibition of the same name, this time around revisited that powerful series and reproduced the artworks from that seminal show in the medium of print. The linocuts offer a graphic reinterpretation of Ngobeni’s large, bold, and complex collages on canvas. The exhibition opens at 10 am.

19 January: Sundays in The Living Room

An event that brings aural quality and progression to Living Room, by inviting South Africa’s finest, and most talented artists to a day on the decks. Sundays in The Living Room is a carefully curated musical journey which ensure a world class day of house music for you to experience and enjoy inside the rooftop oasis. This week’s edition features Plaat Japie, Deniece Marz, David and Goliath and Si’Noir. Tickets are available on www.quicket.co.za for R70 and R100 at the door.

19 January: DOP

DOP, Retief Scholtz’s theatrical debut will be presented at the Market Theatre for a two-week run from 9 -19 January. Produced by Kosie Smit, directed by Sylvaine Strike featuring Andre Odendaal and Wilhelm van der Walt. The production is a fascinating and cutting-edge story of Frank Venter, an ordinary man. One of thousands in life that a few will know, and even fewer will remember. Like everyone, Frank has a story that nobody listens to. It’s not impressive enough — or is it?
