RMD and LRMD meeting tackles Rosebank issues
ROSEBANK – A number of burning issues were discussed at the RMD and LRMD meeting with some still a long way from being solved.
The Rosebank Management District (RMD) together with the Lower Rosebank Management District (LRMD) held an operations meeting at Rosebank Towers on 12 February. Precinct manager for Excellerate Managed Services Lerato Khiba addressed the various stakeholders in attendance and kicked off the discussion with issue of the commuter taxi holding space.
She said the issue of lack of space for commuter taxis as well as delivery motorbikes was getting worse but research and negotiations towards suitable solutions were underway with the City of Johannesburg Transport Department. Lawrence Mbatha from the Rosebank Rank Committee added that was a need for taxi operators to come together and cooperate while they waited for a solution.
Khiba highlighted some ongoing developments in the area which include the Galleria, The Median as well as the ex-FNB building; with all three properties on Cradock Avenue. She also mentioned future developments which could see an increase in the number of storeys on the properties.

Excellerate Integrated Services manager Simon Molele said cell phone snatching, particularly on Sturdee Avenue, as well as out of motor vehicle theft were still an issue. However, he said, “Drug issues on Keyes Park have lessened since November 2019 and the dealers are now displaced. Currently, the situation is being monitored and weekly raids with SAPS and other security companies continue.”

Rosebank Police Station spokesperson Sergeant Bongi Mdletshe added that stakeholders should advise clients to be careful with their valuables in public spaces because every time he patrols on the streets, he sees people holding their phones carelessly. He also encouraged people to avoid parking at places where parking is prohibited because there will be no guards there which makes theft easier.
Khiba added, “Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) visibility and participation is still an issue especially during load-shedding. I have requested a joint operation between the JMPD and SAPS regarding illegal parking along problematic avenues.”

She said the RMD car guards are the extra eyes and ears on the street and can be identified by their distinctive lime green and navy branded uniform as well as Ukheshe QR cards which they all have. “They have all had background criminal checks and are managed by the RMD and its service provider, Excellerate Services Security,” said Khiba.
