Some Parkwood residents without power since 3 October

City Power apologises for the inconvenience arising from this interruption.

Residents living in Sussex and Dudley roads in Parkwood have been without power since 3 October.

According to a statement by City Power, the interruption was caused by a faulty mini-substation that needs to be replaced on the corner of Bolton Street and Sussex Road.

“City Power technicians are already on-site effecting the necessary repairs. Unfortunately, we do not have an ETR at this moment, further information will be communicated on our Twitter page @CityPowerJhb,” said a statement from City Power.

“City Power apologises for the inconvenience arising from this interruption.”

A separate issue is the lack of power in areas including Parkwood, Parkview, Westcliff, Forest Town, Melville and Greenside following the hailstorm on 5 October after the Delta sub tripped.

Ward 87 councillor Bridget Steer said that the outage in Forest Town was due to a transformer that was down. “They can’t restore power in Westcliff or Parkview until this is resolved because this transformer feeds into Parkview and Westcliff,” said Steer.

When the Gazette contacted Steer on 7 October, she said that most of the affected areas had been restored, but a burnt transformer was the cause of the problem.

She said that Taylor and Prentice roads in Greenside were still affected. “Husthill has 635 outstanding calls in total at this moment.”
