With grateful hearts
PARKVIEW – The main task for the association was to feed the residents in need.
The year 2020 was brought to a grinding halt by Covid-19 as the Parkview Residents Association (PRA) noted. Reporting on behalf of the association, marketing and communication manager Caryl Kelly said, “As a community, we had to adjust to a new way of life, adopt new habits, and the PRA subsequently shifted its focus. As a result, 2020 turned out to be a busier year than most. We were unable to go ahead with any of our regular public events, so we focused on helping our residents who needed assistance, feeding some of the many hungry and displaced people in our community and city, and supporting our local businesses as best as we could during and after the lockdown regulations were relaxed.”
She added that the PRA is extremely grateful to the Parkview community for their contributions this past year, either through volunteering, financial donations and/or donations-in-kind. During lockdown the community went above and beyond by donating to a number of collections for charities that were desperate for assistance, financing and packing more than 800 food parcels, and by contributing funds to various initiatives in the city. To date, the Parkview residents contributed a staggering R543 600 towards these initiatives.
“We express our gratitude to the people who served the community on our various committees, and the residents who responded to our countless requests for assistance. Collectively, while it was a completely different type of year, we lightened the load of people in Parkview, our ward, and the inner city.
“Our suburb has always been about our community. Our residents showed their selflessness when they could easily have closed their hands and worry about their own interests. This year would not have been quite as bright as it was without our Rainbow Group. They inspired our resident children to create the most beautiful art that adored our Parkview streets during a very bleak time.”
Kelly said the PRA wishes all its residents and friends of Parkview a happy and restful festive season. “Be safe, be responsible, stay vigilant, and may 2021 hold much promise and blessing for you.”
