Woodrock Pop-Up manager expresses joy at seeing more adoptions

PARKTOWN NORTH – Members of the public are invited to visit and find the dog most suited to them on Saturdays and Sundays between 9am and 2pm.

Woodrock Pop-Up manager and coordinator Jacqui Martheze has been excited to see the welcoming and engaging response from the local community to their initiative.

In October last year, Woodrock Animal Rescue, which is based at Hennops River, opened a pop-up at The Garden Shop in Parktown North. Woodrock brings out a small selection of adoptable dogs to visit the shop each weekend and invites members of the public to visit and view some of the dogs suitable for various environments.

“Local community members volunteer their time to do community service with us and create amazing relationships with each animal. It is such a joy when they see a dog adopted into a loving home,” said Martheze.

The ultimate goal of the pop-up is to happily rehome animals from the rescue centre.

Dogs at the centre come from a variety of backgrounds, some were surrendered, others are rescued dogs from abusive situations or from facilities that would have put them down. Dogs are rehabilitated at the headquarters in Hennops River before being hand-picked to visit the pop-up, ready for adoption.

Martheze said that having a footprint in town has increased the rescue organisation’s accessibility and done wonders for animal rescue. She said that over 90 dogs were rehomed from Woodrock in January, 29 of which were from the pop-up.

“Some locals visit every weekend just to see the dogs. We have created a safe and engaging space for people to visit with an easy access drop-off zone for donations. People come in lapping up the environment and continually being educated about animal rescue.”

Martheze thanked sponsors Marltons, The Garden Shop and Lionel’s Choice for their unwavering support to keep the pop-up functional.

Members of the public are invited to visit and find the dog most suited to them on Saturdays and Sundays between 9am and 2pm.
