A token of honour for child author
BRAMLEY– These words of honour were combined into a book to be presented to the young author and activist as a birthday gift.
While young author Stacey Fru celebrated her 14th birthday on 16 February, she wasn’t aware that there was a secret brewing right in her own house.
The secret was a 184-page book, Stacey Fru: As Seen and Heard compiled by The Stacey Fru Foundation which was presented to little Miss Fru on 20 February as a birthday gift.
As Stacey told the media in 2019 when she was interviewed upon the release of her fourth and fifth books, “There are many ways to honour a hero. One of them is to teach, and another is to be a role model for others.”
To date, with the help of her parents and friends of The Stacey Fru Foundation, the foundation has compiled words of honour to Stacey from 60 people from all six continents as a gift to show Stacey how worthy her sacrifices have been.
Dorcas Gwenhure of the foundation said, “This testimonial is for Stacey but it is our own way to show the world what this young lady has been up to. Many people do not understand the challenges and glories that Stacey and her team have encountered. They just see Stacey and her works.”
She added that the book was aimed to congratulate, motivate, and stimulate Stacey, and was aimed at motivating and encouraging people. It was a silent but noisy way to tell hopefuls that if Stacey could be known for her writings and her works across the planet by age 13, every other child or late-blooming adult could be as well.
These testimonials from around the world, in the form of comments, praises, poems and stories, gives the reader the opportunity to see Stacey through the eyes of children and adults whose lives she has impacted so profoundly. It is a fitting tribute.
Gwenhure said Stacey’s parents and the foundation team have worked on the book since May 2020 in private. Asked how the book distribution would be managed, Stacey’s father Dr Emmanuel Fru said, “We have played out part as her parents. Going forward, the print and sales of the book will be managed by The Stacey Fru Foundation. They will have to use the book to promote Stacey’s works, encourage other children and sell it to sustain her dream of fostering literacy on the continent.”
The Stacey Fru Foundation is hoping to raise funds to print copies of the book for sale and a virtual book launch will be scheduled soon.
