KES debaters strike gold at Sacee Debating League
HOUGHTON – The four talented learners accumulated five consecutive wins at the Sacee Debating League.
King Edward VII School in Houghton is proud of their senior debating team who struck gold again.
The four talented learners, Tyreece Porthen, Thomas Willcox, Russel Davis and Marcus Cordeiro, accumulated five consecutive wins in rounds one to five at the South African Council for English Education (Sacee) Debating League.
The debates were held on 6 and 13 March with all competitions conducted online.
Marketing and communications manager at the school Caroline Voster said, “This is history in the making and we are extremely proud of their achievements.”
The team debated against the following schools: St David’s, Parktown High School for Girls, Edenglen High School, Jeppe High School for Boys and Trinity House Randpark Ridge.
The boys particularly enjoyed the first debate as they were asked to argue the following motion: This house would legalise physician-assisted euthanasia. As the proposition, the orators spoke convincingly and intelligently on affording terminal patients the right to a dignified and pain-free death.
Voster explained that while Russel and Marcus are seasoned debaters, Tyreece and Thomas joined the team this year and have already proved their mettle in the series of debates.
