RAC wraps up winter series
BORDEAUX – Runners brace the cold to complete the RAC winter series, with older runners doing proud.
Feedback from runners was overwhelmingly positive regarding Rand Athletic Club’s (RAC) 10km Winter Series with Ferndale On Republic.
The Old Park Sports Club running group held the first of the four runs on June 24 but the other three had to be postponed after the country moved to Level 4 lockdown.

The series resumed with the second run on August 1, the third on August 14 and the fourth and final run on August 29.
As expected, the running times were similar across all four events, which were run in the cold and over many hills.
But there were some surprises that proved running is not just a sport for the young.

The second and third events were won by Michael McNally of the veterans (40–49) age category, with times of 0:41:19 and 0:39:47 respectively.
This while Derrick Daniels of the grandmasters (60–69) age category finished third in the second event and fourth in the fourth event.

In fact, all the events save the first, saw veterans, masters and even grandmasters represented well in the top 10 finishers.
In spite of the difficult conditions, runners commented that they had a great time and looked forward to the next RAC event.
