Local club celebrates their second-place position in ANLFA with style
NORWOOD – Norwood's deadly striker, Pepino Laurent bagged the top goalscorer accolade.
Over 150 families received food parcels on November 26 during the Norwood Young Stars Football Club Award ceremony held in Paterson Park Recreation Centre.
The Norwood Young Stars hosted the award ceremony to celebrate their second place position in the log table of the Alexandra Northrand Football Association, and players were awarded medals and also food parcels from Bidvest for each player and their families from the teams U13, U15, U17, and the seniors.
Karabo Phiri, one of the players, got the players-player of the season accolade. Also, Kabelo Ramaloko, skipper for the under divisions, got the players-player award. Norwood’s deadly striker, Pepino Laurent also bagged the top goal scorer accolade.
The ceremony featured some guests including the Norwood police and Lifeline members educating the players about a safe and healthy lifestyle.
Norwood police spokesperson, Sergeant Eric Masotsha said words cannot describe how much the police appreciate the wonderful job Alan Fainman, who is the CEO of Bidvest, has done for the players.
“We want to thank Alan Fainman for his generous donations to these players in this Covid time. Thank you for looking after the disadvantaged children and always being there for the players.”
Masotsha also explained that Fainman is fighting crime by motivating the players as it will instal a positive mindset in their brains.
“We encourage some other business people to help these kids as they are the future of tomorrow. It will mean a big thing to them by sponsoring them with sanitary, soccer kit or any form which is going to motivate them,” Masotsha explained.
Venita Masisi, chairperson of Norwood Young Stars, said the event was a huge success. “It was wonderful and magical just to see the kids and their parents so grateful and humble for the food parcels.
“We would also like to thank the City of Joburg for allowing us to host this important event, and mostly we are humbled by Bidvest for feeding more than 150 families.”
