A token of appreciation
FAIRWAY – The security guard came to the rescue of a woman who was dangerously dragged by her moving car.
A board of trustees of a local residence put together a token of appreciation for one of their security guards.
This was after the security guard saved a woman who was being dangerously dragged by her car upon visiting the residence.
Secretary for the board of trustees at Headingley in Fairway Mandy Latimore described the guard, Ishmael Mofokeng as a thoughtful, considerate, pro-active and super-efficient man.
Recounting the event which took place on December 31, Mofokeng said he was on guard duty at the gate and the woman was coming to visit family at the complex.
“It seems the car was in reverse gear when she parked it and she was not aware. Then a few seconds after she got out, the car started moving backwards. I immediately ran to the car and at the same time the lady had also tried to stop her car but she fell and got dragged by the car. I managed to stop the car and pull up the handbrake after a few metres but the lady had been badly injured,” Mofokeng recounted.
He feared the worst when he saw one of the tyres heading towards the woman’s head and felt shocked by the whole incident.
Latimore, who is a nurse and was also on the scene, checked and made sure the woman had no broken bones. She said, “We called the ambulance and they asked if she was conscious and I said yes. She, however, passed out but the ambulance finally arrived and took her to the clinic. She was a visitor here so we haven’t heard about her progress since she left.”
The board of trustees including George Argyros and Shabeer Thokan expressed their gratitude towards Mofokeng and presented R1 000 in cash to him.
Thokan said, “On behalf of the trustees we would like to present to you this envelope because we appreciate you and all the things you do for us. And also, the things you are not supposed to do but still do – like you saved the lady’s life.”
