Debaters rank on top

PARKVIEW – The debaters performed phenomenally well in both their individual capacity and in teams.

A number of debating learners at Parktown Girls participated in the South African National Schools Debating Championships, where the Gauteng delegation made three out of four finals.

Aaliyah Cassim, Christina Vaudran, Micaela Smith, Tiger-Anne Cupido, Keketso Smith and Laura Henning formed part of the Gauteng delegation which contributed to Gauteng winning the best delegation.

Aaliyah explained that the debaters performed phenomenally well in both their individual capacity and in teams.

In the junior division, Keketso’s team ranked eighth and made it to the National Junior Final while Laura’s team ranked fourth and Laura ranked ninth individually. Laura was also selected to trial for the South African Junior Debating Team.

In the senior division, Aaliyah’s team ranked seventh in the country. Tiger-Anne’s team ranked 10th and went on to win the senior plate final. Micaela’s team ranked sixth, Christina’s team ranked second in the country and made it to the National Senior Final. As individual, Micaela ranked 11th and Christina ranked first – making her the best schools debater in South Africa. Both Christina and Micaela were also selected to trial for the South African Senior Debating Team.

Aaliyah said, “We are so proud of every single one of the debaters. Not only have they produced amazing results, but they have also shown immense amounts of hard work, dedication and commitment. Well done girls, you made Parktown proud.”
