A victim support unit at Parkview

Victim-friendly room services are offered for free at the Parkview Police Station.

Parkview Police Station, in partnership with the CPF, has formed a victim support unit that provides emotional and practical support as well as referrals to professional support services.

Station Commander Colonel Devan Govender explained that the victim-friendly room provides an opportunity for victims of gender-based violence, child abuse, sexual offenses and domestic violence to be interviewed and statements to be taken in a private room to avoid secondary victimisation.

“SAPS Parkview pledges its commitment to ensuring that all victims will receive information from the police when reporting a crime, keeping the victim informed about the progress, procedure, and status of the case, and when necessary, providing protection and explaining the procedure on how to apply for a protection order,” said Govender.

He added that the members posted in the victim-friendly room have undergone all the necessary courses and workshops to treat all victims professionally.

Govender urged the community to assist the police by being actively involved in the CPF by identifying crime issues in their suburbs, becoming volunteers, and joining the victim’s support unit.

“The assistance provided to uplift the suavity of the service provided by the victim-friendly room is highly appreciated.”
