IPID effects arrest following murder of metro police officer
A Parkview SAPS Vispol Unit constable was arrested for the murder of a metro police officer earlier this year.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has arrested an officer of the Parkview SAPS Vispol Unit for the murder of Constable Sibusiso Zikalala of the Johannesburg Metro Police Department.
IPID national spokesperson Robbie Raburabu reported that on the morning of October 31, a team of IPID investigators arrested Constable Bongimpilo Nzuzu Bengu (28) for the murder. The murder happened outside a club in Braamfontein in the early hours of June 26 where Zikalala was shot and killed in front of his wife. The incident is alleged to have happened after an altercation between the deceased and Bengu.
Raburabu said Bengu appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court facing charges of murder and was given a R5 000 bail with conditions.
The spokesperson said the proceedings were remanded to January 25 next year for further investigations.
