Johannesburg Water completes Bramley road repair while JRA begins backfilling

A hazardous excavation on Junction Road in Bramley has been repaired following municipal infrastructure leaks, with road reinstatement underway.

Johannesburg Water on October 18 confirmed that the dangerous state of the corner of Junction Road in Bramley was repaired after a leak and fault resulted in an excavation.

Spokesperson Nombuso Shabalala said, “An excavation was undertaken to access the affected infrastructure and carry out the required repairs. The leak repair has been completed, and the site was subsequently escalated to the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) for reinstatement.”

The spokesperson said JRA had commenced with the backfilling and reinstatement works.

The publication sent JRA questions regarding the excavation on October 18 and gave a deadline of October 21 to respond, but has yet to receive confirmation regarding the execution of backfilling and reinstatement works.

Ward 74 councillor Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku, who visited the site on October 13, said it was unacceptable for excavations to be left in a hazardous state.

“I am furious because more than a month ago, we visited this site with Johannesburg Water, who said they would attend to the excavation,’ said Kayser-Echeozonjoku.

“Entities not repairing infrastructure timeously are putting it at risk for vandalism because pipes and equipment are exposed.”
