Ward 74 councillor Eleanor Huggett says service delivery remains a challenge

Eleanor Huggett said although the Reya Vaya and upgrade of Louis Botha was incomplete, the bus stations are complete.

Ward 74 councillor Eleanor Huggett although there have been helpful officials in the different spheres of government, service delivery remains a challenge and residents are not getting the service delivery they deserve and for which they are paying.

“I wish to thank all the resident associations and residents for filling gaps by stepping up and adopting parks, cleaning the streets, and organising fundraisers. It is they who are mainly maintaining the suburbs.”

Hugett added that she was still waiting for the Reya Vaya and the upgrade of Louis Botha Avenue to be completed and this is an ongoing challenge and inconvenience to the residents as well as councillors.

She added, “There has been progress, the bus stations are complete, and the project has been handed from the Johannesburg Development Agency to Johannesburg Road Agency. Officially the building part of the Reya Vaya is complete. However, the whole stretch of road continues to decay with crime and illegal activities proliferating and the bus stations remain closed.”

The Storm Water Repair Project is ongoing through Paterson Park and the Sewer Pipe Replacement Project is almost complete, however, there were further challenges with work stoppages but at present, these seem to be resolved.

“The fact that there had been no maintenance and much of both are in wetlands in clay has caused massive delays, but progress is being made.”

She concluded that the Norwood Community Policing Forum led by Executive Chair Wayne Preston, with the various sectors and Patrollers in Blue, are going on bi-weekly exercises to resolve issues in the ward including Louis Botha Avenue.

“I want to give a very special thanks to all the residents for their ongoing support and understanding in very difficult times.”
