The Silver Lining Group looks forward to hosting community members in 2024

The Silver Lining Group mornings are filled with a variety of word games.

The Silver Lining Group organiser, Bev Cohen urges community members to join the Dementia and Alzheimer’s friendly group in 2024, located at The Andrew Murray Church, 17a Oaklands Road, Orchards.

The group meets every Wednesday morning.

“Our Silver Lining group started over seven years ago when we realised that there was a need in the community for a place for people with Dementia, Alzheimer’s, or any other condition. This is to encourage people to come to a fun-filled morning of stimulation, socialisation and laughter in an environment that is warm and nurturing.”

Cohen added that this is also an opportunity for caregivers to have a few hours of respite. The Silver Lining Group has people attending who are lonely and need company.

The group mornings include a variety of word games, word searches being one of the favourites. Other games including memory games and bingo are also played, a variety of art sessions in the second half of the morning plus music and dancing which is incredibly popular.

The organiser noted, “The programme is most beneficial, especially to those who are sitting at home alone with no stimulation. We know it can be very daunting and intimidating for someone to come along, especially if their family member would like him or her to come and they do not.”

The Silver Lining Group charges a fee which includes tea for both caregivers and attendees. The mornings run for two hours from 10:00-12:00.
