Parkview Residents’ Association is fed up with recurring burst pipes

Parkview and Greenside residents were left with no water on January 29.

The Parkview Residents’ Association is up in arms after the excavation of a burst pipe on the corner of Dorset and Denbigh roads in Parkwood was flooded and left the community with no water.

The association’s chair, Philanie Jooste said residents have been dealing with pipe bursts since June 2023.
“We have, approximately, 10 schools in Parkview where children, including toddlers, [were] without water. This is the third time in a week that Parkview is without water.”
Jooste added that a teacher from Parktown High School for Girls requested a water tanker and resorted to using water from their swimming pool to use the bathroom.

The Gazette wrote the first article about the excavated pipe hole and illegal pavement excavation on January 31 [remove before layout] which can be read here.

Ward 87 councillor, Bridget Steer sent the Gazette proof in the form of an email enquiring about and escalating the burst pipe matter.

Joburg Water’s spokesperson Nombuso Shabalal said, “The excavated hole which was filled up with water was as a result of a burst pipe, which was repaired on January 30, and the water supply was subsequently restored.”

She added that upon further assessment it was found that there was a valve that had a minor leak, which would be repaired as soon as material has been sourced.
