St Mary’s School, Waverley learner wins her first golf open event
Gia-Ruby Raad recently came back from a three week golf trip in the US.
St Mary’s School, Waverley learner, Gia-Ruby Raad is elated about her first golf open event win.
Gia-Ruby recently won the South African Women’s Amateur Championship which took place from February 4-9.
“I recently came back from a three-week golf trip in America, playing two youth tournaments where I finished fifth in the first and ninth in the second. That was the majority of my preparation as I had played a lot of golf in January.”
She added that her interest in golf was encouraged by her dad who was a very good golfer.
“This big win is my first RSA golf open event. I am considering turning professional but have yet to decide if I turn pro straight after completing school or after I go to an American college.”
Gia-Ruby concluded that academics sometimes affected her performance due to not always being able to play in all the events because it took too much of her school time and she was not always able to practise or prepare for some tournaments as much as she would like to.
