St Teresa’s School remains committed to supporting causes that promote mercy values

Rare Diseases South Africa offers support, improved health service, and a better overall quality of life to the 4.1 million South Africans who have, or will be, diagnosed with a rare disease.

St Teresa’s School celebrated Rare Diseases Day by purchasing stickers for R10 and wearing civvies to school on February 29.

All proceeds from the sale of the stickers went to Rare Diseases South Africa, a registered non-profit organisation advocating for a better tomorrow for the one in 15 South Africans impacted by rare diseases and congenital disorders.

Rare Diseases South Africa offers support, improved health service, and better overall quality of life to the 4.1 million South Africans who have or will be diagnosed with a rare disease or congenital disorder in their lifetime. Their mission is to ensure a better tomorrow for all those impacted by a rare disease.

The school’s marketing and communications manager Lianda May said the Senior Primary School was honoured to welcome Nomsa Mtshali from the organisation who highlighted the realities faced by individuals living with rare diseases.

“Nomsa’s presence shed light on topics that are sometimes difficult to confront, sparking important conversations and fostering understanding. Through her insights, students and staff alike were able to reflect on their own lives and gain perspective.”

St Teresa’s Senior Primary principal Lindsey Verster expressed gratitude for Nomsa’s visit. “Today was a valuable opportunity for our community to come together, learn, and empathise with those facing rare diseases. We are thankful for Nomsa’s willingness to educate us on rare diseases.”

The school remains committed to supporting causes that promote mercy values of compassion and collaboration and incorporate understanding and inclusivity within its community and beyond.
