4 suspects apprehended after attempted housebreaking in Melrose, N1 chase

A Melrose resident activated the CAP panic button after noticing suspicious activity at their home.

Four men who were suspected of attempted housebreaking were apprehended on the N1 near Beyers Naude Drive, Randpark Ridge.

According to Community Active Protection (CAP)’s communication specialist Elyse Golovey, the incident occurred at a residence on St Andrew Street in Melrose on October 19.

“Four suspects, unconfirmed if armed, arrived in a silver Renault Captur with an unknown registration. One suspect exited the vehicle and attempted to force entry through the main gate,” said Golovey.

Golovey added the homeowner noticed the suspicious activity on their home security system and activated their CAP panic button.

SAPS Highway Patrol Flexi 2, CAP Specialised Operations, and Tracker Connect were immediately dispatched to the scene. The suspects fled the scene but were pursued and apprehended on the N1.
