Leadership with purpose: how Parktown Boys’ new head boys plan to make a difference
Parktown Boys High begins a new chapter as the leaders of 2025 prepare to inspire change and uphold tradition.
Parktown Boys’ High School announced Khanyisa Kraai as the head boy for 2025, a moment that took him from Parktonian dreamer to leader.
Standing on the school stage, he felt a surreal blend of pride, excitement, and responsibility as the role shifted from dream to reality. “It’s crazy,” he shared. “You hear people talk about your potential, but when the principal looks straight at you and names you head boy, that’s when it hits you, it’s real.”

Khanyisa’s journey to leadership started in Grade 8, shaped by his commitment to embody the values of a Parktonian gentleman. “A good leader does not create followers but one who creates more leaders,” he said, believing his influence is only as strong as the leaders he inspires. His leadership approach fosters growth in others and creates a culture where everyone feels empowered to contribute.
One of Khanyisa’s main goals is to break the stigma around mental health. Recognising boys’ challenges in sharing their feelings, he plans to introduce a forum for open conversations. “Often, you may not need someone to talk to, but someone may need to talk to you.” He hopes this initiative will build a culture of understanding and empathy within the school community.
Alongside Khanyisa, deputy head boy David van der Westhuizen brings a powerful passion for Parktown Boys. Since Grade 8, he envisioned himself in a leadership role, calling the opportunity to serve ‘an absolute privilege’. David sees his role as one of teamwork and support. “Effective leadership requires humility,” he said, noting that his focus is to back Khanyisa and promote unity throughout the school.
In 2025, the pair aims to tackle key issues of inclusivity, learner engagement, and academic growth. David is keen to see more boys actively involved in academics, emphasising that school is about building a foundation for the future. “While sports and traditions are vital, we need a strong focus on academics,” he said.
The two leaders also hope to give the Lions Den initiative their full support, which encourages learners to take pride in their school environment. David believes that when boys feel connected to their school, whether by respecting its spaces or maintaining the grounds, it fosters responsibility and pride that extend beyond the school walls.
As the 2025 school year approaches, Khanyisa and David stand ready to lead Parktown Boys with purpose, humility, and a vision to inspire future generations of Parktonians. Their shared legacy promises unity, growth, and a commitment to making every learner feel at home.
