Bokamoso Stars Academy opens the door to a world of opportunities at annual career day

The Annual Career Day offered learners a chance to explore a world of career opportunities and ignite their aspirations.

Bokamoso Stars Academy hosted its much-anticipated Annual Career Day, a vibrant event designed to give learners a glimpse into the diverse career opportunities that lie ahead of them.
The day, November 29, was themed A World of Opportunities, and it was filled with exciting and educational experiences that ignited the learners’ imaginations.

The event kicked off with a range of dynamic professionals sharing their knowledge, insights, and experiences from their respective fields. The goal was simple but significant: to inspire the next generation and give them a clear understanding of the wide array of professions they could pursue.

Sibongile Mkhombe, a seasoned cosmetologist, shared her career insights with learners, emphasising the importance of anatomy, physiology, wellness, and nutrition. “Mathematics, life sciences, and natural science are key,” she said. She also presented a captivating video on cosmetology, which sparked many questions and interest from the learners.

Ngoho Nengovhela, a firefighter at Alexandra Fire Station, brought firefighting to life for learners. “We are the community’s friends, fighting fire,” he shared, accompanied by an energetic song and dance. The highlight was a lucky learner trying on firefighter gear, inspiring many to envision a career in this brave profession.

The library played a vital role in shaping young minds. Patrick Mayela, a Killarney Library librarian, highlighted career possibilities for those passionate about reading and writing, discussing the importance of librarianship in fields such as education and research. Sonti Maseko encouraged the learners to develop a reading culture at home and school, stating, “Reading opens doors to a world of knowledge.” She was pleased that many learners already enjoyed reading as a pastime. Dika Langa took names of interested learners to provide them with resources related to their career interests.

Perhaps one of the most impactful moments came when Warrant Officer Eric Masotsha and his team from the police force addressed the learners. Their presentation captivated the learners, who were eager to understand the role of law enforcement in their communities. Masotsha explained how the police were there to protect and serve, especially the youth. He encouraged learners to consider policing as a career, highlighting how much it reflected a love for one’s country. The learners were brimming with questions about police operations, training, and the day-to-day realities of the profession.

The event focused on connection as learners interacted with the guests, asked questions, and took pictures. It aimed to inspire future careers, leaving many with a greater understanding of available opportunities, and potentially guiding a few towards their desired paths. The event was a clear success, Bokamoso Stars Academy is paving the way for its learners, providing them with the knowledge and encouragement to reach for the stars.
