The event, held on December 5 at the Headway Hyde Park branch, was made even more special by the presence of several inspiring guests – the Betway ambassadors. These former soccer stars, dedicated to giving back to the community through Betway Cares, joined the festivities and delighted attendees. Siphiwe Tshabalala, Hlompho Kekana, Katlego Mphela, and Lehlohonolo Majoro added a star-studded touch to the occasion. For many Headway members, the highlight of the day was the opportunity to meet these sports legends. After all, the mood of the week often hinges on their team’s performance, making this interaction with their heroes a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience.
What truly made the celebration stand out was a unique activity designed to foster connection. Attendees were divided into small groups, each joined by one of the soccer stars. In these intimate settings, participants shared personal stories, exchanged gratitude, and formed bonds that transcended the boundaries of the day. The conversations were emotional and meaningful, and it was clear that everyone left with a deeper sense of appreciation for the resilience within their community.
The bring-and-share format of the event emphasised the sense of togetherness that defines Headway Gauteng. The sharing of food, laughter, and memories reminded attendees of the power of community in times of struggle and triumph. As the day ended, there was a renewed sense of hope and inspiration, a reminder that no challenge is too great when faced together.
The Betway ambassadors took the stage to express their admiration for the Headway community. Their words were filled with respect and admiration, leaving a lasting impact on everyone in the room.

Lehlohonolo Majoro, deeply moved by the strength of the attendees, shared, “I thought I was strong until I met you.”
Siphiwe Tshabalala echoed these sentiments, saying, “We are stronger together. It’s an honour to be here today. You are our heroes. Your resilience and determination inspire us all.”
Hlompho Kekana, touched by the incredible individuals he met, reflected, “I thought I had done it all. But today, I’ve met amazing people, and you are now a part of my story. You have truly changed my life.”
Headway Gauteng continues to offer essential support to individuals with brain injuries and their families, providing critical services such as rehabilitation, therapy, and community integration. This vital work would not be possible without donors’ generosity and the community’s support, and the end-of-year celebration was a beautiful reminder of how far the organisation has come.
As the year comes to a close, Headway Gauteng’s community stands stronger than ever. United by their shared experiences and lessons learned, they look ahead with optimism, knowing they can overcome any challenge together. The celebration was more than just a party, it was a testament to the power of resilience, hope, and the unbreakable bonds of community.
