3-day water outage to hit Old Joburg – Plan ahead
Residents of Ward 117 are advised to gear up for a significant water outage from January 31 until February 3.
Residents in large parts of Johannesburg are bracing for a three-day water outage as Johannesburg Water (JW) installs new isolation valves at the Hector Norris pump station. This essential maintenance is expected to improve long-term water management in the city but will temporarily disrupt supply from 18:00 on January 31 until 18:00 on February 3.

The affected areas include several suburbs in and around the Oxford Road corridor, particularly those supplied by the Parktown 2 reservoir. In Ward 117, suburbs such as Saxonwold, Parkwood, Rosebank, and east Parktown North are among those expected to experience water interruptions.

JW has confirmed that all streets within the affected zones will face disruptions. However, residents in higher-lying areas are likely to bear the brunt of the outage, with supply taking longer to stabilise even after maintenance is complete.
Councillor Tim Truluck and local authorities are urging residents to prepare by storing sufficient water for household use and minimising water consumption during this period. Updates and further details, including the full list of affected areas, will be shared through JW communication channels.
While installation of isolation valves is an important step in enhancing the city’s water infrastructure, residents are advised to plan for potential delays in normalising water supply once the work is completed.
