Weinberg Family Park is a few steps away from being adopted by residence associations

Johannesburg Water is handling Weinberg Family Park's final reinstatements before the handover to the Savoy Estate Residents Association and Waverley Ratepayers Residents Homeowners Association who are adopting the park.

The Weinberg Family Park is a few steps away from being adopted by the Savoy Estate Residents Association and Waverley Ratepayers Residents Homeowners Association.

Last year, the family park underwent what was supposed to be a three-week rehabilitation project facilitated by Johannesburg Water (JW) to address a dug-up sewerage pipe that posed a threat to community members who utilise the facility.

The project eventually reached completion after City Parks renewed its contract workers’ wayleaves to execute the work in the park, and after environmental concerns regarding the wetland were cleared.

The publication visited the park on January 25 and met with Ward 74 councillor Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku, who explained that she had a meeting with City Parks and JW to discuss the park’s next steps.

• The work to restore the pavement, which will begin on January 27, and JW will be responsible for this. They promised it would take three weeks, which means they need to be finished by February 14.
• JW’s mandate is to restore the pavement. They also promised to reinstate two big potholes in the road, and fix the park’s gate.
• Once JW completes its work, it will hand the park over to City Parks.
• City Parks promised to add more bins, get a cleaning person for the toilets over the weekend, and explain their ‘rolling cycle’ cleaning plan for all 20 plus parks in the area.
• City Parks would then need to hand the park over to the residents’ associations, once the maintenance of the park is complete, for the adoption process to take place.

Kayser-Echeozonjoku added: “Apart from the above, we will also see if JW can add a curb, but we are unsure if this will be within their budget.”
