Sydenham and Sandringham Residents Association AGM highlights community upgrades and crime reduction

At the AGM the association highlighted major progress on the road closure project, crime reduction, and infrastructure improvements.

The Sydenham and Sandringham Residents Association (SSRA) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Genesis Conference Centre on February 27, where key community developments were discussed.

Chairperson Adrian Chiger highlighted the progress of the long-awaited road closure project, which recently received interim approval from the city. The next steps include public gazetting and final approval. Bryan Nathan and Eli Michal, who led the initiative with CAP, were commended for their efforts.

Other improvements included new traffic lights at Durham Road and 12th Avenue, upgraded walkways on Edward Avenue, and the rehabilitation of the road, supported by a local developer. The securing of electric substations, led by Eitan Fine, has helped curb theft and reduce power outages.

Crime in the area has seen a significant decline, according to a report by CAP’s Mike Sears. He credited community involvement and initiatives like the Green Team, which enhances public spaces while also contributing to crime prevention.

Despite these improvements, road conditions, water leaks, and electricity disruptions remain challenges. Ward councillor Daniel Schay was praised for his responsiveness in addressing municipal issues.

New SSRA office bearers were announced, with Chiger continuing as chairperson, alongside Marli Goldberg (vice chairperson), Michele Petersen (finance), and Sarah Tomaz (secretary). The association urged residents to participate in upcoming projects tackling urban decay and fireworks concerns.
