Steps to report corruption within JMPD
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) is taking a strong stand against corruption, spokesperson Xolani Fihla shares a comprehensive guide on how to report a corrupt officer effectively.
In a bid to encourage transparency and uphold ethical standards, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson, Xolani Fihla, has outlined clear procedures for residents to report corruption and misconduct among JMPD officers.

With the introduction of various reporting channels, JMPD is reaffirming its commitment to fighting corruption within the organisation.
Ways to report:
• Contact JMPD Anti-Fraud and Corruption Hotline on 080 020 3712.
• Send them a WhatsApp message to 063 253 1928.
• Visit the JMPD Internal Affairs Unit office at Village Main Road and Loveday Street, Wemmer.
“You may be asked to submit a written statement or affidavit. This should include all the details of the incident, as well as any supporting documents,” Fihla said.

Details to provide:
• The officer’s name or badge number.
• The date, time, and location of the incident.
• A description of the corrupt act.
• Any evidence such as photos, videos, or recordings.
Once a complaint is filed, residents are encouraged to follow up with the JMPD Anti-Fraud and Corruption Hotline to ensure the investigation progresses. “Once a complaint is received, the JMPD’s Internal Affairs Unit will conduct a thorough investigation, which may include interviewing witnesses and reviewing evidence.
“We are dedicated to maintaining the integrity of our personnel. Should our investigations reveal wrongdoing, we will take appropriate disciplinary action against the officer involved.
“In cases where JMPD’s response is deemed inadequate, individuals have the option to escalate their concerns to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID),” Fihla said.
