The Old Ducks dominate friendly match at Pirates Club

The Pirates Old Ducks beat the current Pirates ladies 5–0 in a lively friendly match to celebrate the launch of their new AstroTurf.

Pirates Club celebrated a major milestone on May 10 with the official launch of its brand-new AstroTurf and fittingly, it was a match between the past and present that took centre stage.

In a much-anticipated friendly fixture, the Pirates Old Ducks took on a side of current Pirates Ladies players in what became a showcase of skill, spirit, and the enduring love of hockey. The match served as one of the headline events for the launch, and it delivered all the energy and excitement the day deserved.

The Old Ducks, dressed in white, are no strangers to the Pirates’ legacy. Made up of former players who have donned the club colours across multiple decades, they stepped onto the new turf with confidence, flair, and a determination to prove they’ve still got what it takes. Lining up against them were the women in red, current players from the senior section, full of pace, passion and youthful energy.

From the first push back, the Old Ducks showed their class. Their structured play, sharp passing and clever movement off the ball caught the younger team off guard. It didn’t take long for the scoreboard to start ticking in the veterans’ favour. Quick goals, smart finishes and disciplined defending saw them dominate play from start to finish.

The current Pirates Ladies pushed back with bursts of speed and attacking intent, but the Old Ducks’ defence was solid and composed. Each counterattack was met with tight marking and confident tackles. Despite several promising chances for the younger side, they were unable to find a breakthrough.

By the time the final whistle blew, the Old Ducks had secured a commanding 5–0 win, a performance that highlighted not only their talent but also the strong foundation and culture that Pirates Hockey has built over the years.

The atmosphere at Pirates Club was electric. Spectators packed the sidelines, from Blairgowrie staff and learners to Pirates members, parents, alumni and passionate supporters, all eager to witness the historic moment. The new turf, gleaming under the autumn sun, provided the perfect stage for a celebration of club heritage, community and a bright future ahead.
