The school’s hall was buzzing with learners from different schools in Gauteng, eager to learn about different careers in the job market.

Holy Family College headmaster Franc Sobereira explained the importance of the day. “Career day is one of the highlights for learners in the school calendar, as they make informed decisions about their academics. The most important part of this day, is that learners get a clear sense of what career they are interested in, because there are quite a few misconceptions about what a career entails.”

Rotary Club of Rosebank youth committee member Michelle von Benecke said she was pleased about the turnout. “We had a great turnout, with learners from as far afield as Soweto. Our mission is to make this a sought after event for learners across Johannesburg.”
While there were many careers represented at the day, some were missing, such as chef, flight attendant, traders, speech therapy, and pilot. It is the club’s vision to include as many careers as possible in future career days.

Holy Family College Grade 11 learner Abigail Alemayehu explained that she was at the career day to explore what the job market offered. “I am not sure what I want to become yet, but I do know that I am certain that I want to be in the medicine field. I am here to ask around about biomedical science, biomedical engineering, and computer sciences, to see if they’re careers that would interest me.”
