Restoration of Johannesburg City Library continues

Phase 2 of the restoration of the Johannesburg City Library is ongoing, with the reopening expected to be on August 30.

The Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA), on June 21, confirmed on X that restoration, which forms part of phase 2 of the Johannesburg City Library restoration project, is continuing.
Floors that have held generations of footsteps, stories, and study sessions are currently being repaired.

The library officially reopened, albeit partially, to the public, in commemoration of the South African Library Week, on March 21.
Ahead of the partial reopening, the JDA spearheaded critical upgrades to the facility, including electrical reticulation, fire safety enhancements, waterproofing, and servicing of generators.
Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg Dada Morero confirmed that phase two of the library would be open to the public on August 30.
