An unlicensed firearm was recovered by Norwood Police Station’s Crime Prevention team

Norwood SAPS’ Crime Prevention team spotted a suspicious sedan with three occupants and asked to conduct a search which permission was granted.

Norwood Police Station officers removed a dangerous and unlicensed firearm during their routine checks on August 24.

While Norwood SAPS’ Crime Prevention team was conducting their routine stop and search, they spotted a suspicious sedan with three occupants and asked to conduct a search which permission was granted.

According to Warrant Officer Eric Masotsha, “During the search, police recovered one unlicensed firearm which was hidden under the jacket of one of the passengers. He was asked if he had a firearm licence, but failed to give a direct answer.”

Masotsha added that the suspect was transported to Norwood Police Station for formal detention, where his rights were explained to him, and the unlicensed firearm was booked in as proof in a court of law.
