Team South Africa and Australia secured first place at the 2025 World Final of the Kids’ Lit Quiz

National champions of the 2025 World Final of the Kids’ Lit hailed from Australia, Canada, Indonesia, and South Africa.

St John’s Preparatory School hosted the 2025 World Final of the Kids’ Lit Quiz on August 13, with national champions from Australia, Canada, Indonesia, New Zealand, South Africa, Thailand and the USA participating.
Dubbed The Olympic Games of Reading, the competition tested knowledge across mythical animals, islands, authors, illustrators and publishers from the rich world of children’s literature.

After 10 rounds of seven questions each, Team South Africa, which was made up of St Mary’s School, Waverley, and Team Australia from The King’s School Tudor House in New South Wales, was tied for first place, with Team USA in third place.

Following a tense tiebreaker, Team Australia emerged victorious. Medals and certificates were awarded after the quiz, along with the newly engraved floating trophy, which was presented at the Harry Potter-themed gala dinner in the Darragh Hall.

South African authors John van de Ruit, Refiloe Moahloli, Lori-Ann Preston and Hamilton Wende joined the dinner. Gcina Mhlophe, author, broadcaster and national treasure, was the guest of honour, and Halley’s Comet author Hannes Barnard took on the role of MC.

The hall buzzed with laughter and excitement at the close of the literary event.
