Warriors With A Purpose hosts heartfelt Pink October event at Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital

The oncology ward at Charlotte Maxeke came alive with love and hope as Warriors with a Purpose and Golden Tiger Realtors joined hands to honour breast cancer warriors during a heartfelt Pink October celebration.

The oncology ward at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital was transformed into a haven of compassion and colour on October 28, as Warriors with a Purpose hosted a heartfelt Pink October Breast Cancer Awareness event.

In partnership with Golden Tiger Realtors, Vaagh, TH Project of Love, and Aphrodite Essence, the event celebrated women’s resilience. It reminded everyone of the power of unity in the face of illness. The day was filled with laughter, tears, and shared stories of courage as patients, survivors, and supporters came together in solidarity.

Emphasising the importance of early detection, women were encouraged to prioritise mammograms and self-examinations. The discussion also addressed recurrence and the necessity for ongoing care, providing practical advice and heartfelt encouragement.

Each patient received a goodie bag and a bra, tokens that symbolised dignity and care. The initiative was part of a broader effort led by Golden Tiger Realtors, who collected 192 bras, along with toiletries and sanitary pads sponsored by Julie Govender from BMW Northcliff.

Aladia Moodley from Golden Tiger Realtors said, “At Golden Tiger Realtors, we believe that business is not only about success, it’s about significance. We are deeply honoured to stand with Warriors with a Purpose and contribute to something that touches lives so profoundly. We rise by lifting others, and we do so with fearless purpose.”

Founder of Warriors with a Purpose, Renee Singh, expressed her gratitude, saying, “This collaboration reminds us that kindness and compassion are powerful tools for change. When organisations like Golden Tiger Realtors step forward to give back, they help us spread light where it’s most needed.”

Singh also shared her plans to travel to Tunisia for the 2025 AORTIC Conference, where she hopes to strengthen advocacy efforts for advancing cancer care across Africa.

Adding her voice to the message of hope, hospital CEO Gladys Bogoshi said, “You are not a cancer survivor or a cancer patient. You are a human being. The message of hope is best delivered by those who have suffered and gone through this; their experience is the most powerful medicine.”

Among those who shared their stories was breast cancer survivor Heidi Potgieter, who was first diagnosed in 2011 and faced cancer again in 2024. “Hold on to God because He is the only one who can pull us through,” she said with faith and strength.

Another patient, Lerato Motlhake, who was diagnosed with womb cancer in 2023, shared how her baby girl gives her hope each day.

The event ended in smiles, hugs, and renewed hope. It was not just a day of awareness but a celebration of life, love, and the unbreakable human spirit.
