Johannesburg Water confirms water on Jan Smuts Avenue comes from storm water drain

The source of the water running down Jan Smuts Avenue has been confirmed to be run-off from a blocked storm water drain, so says JW.

The water on Jan Smuts Avenue in Craighall, which was first pointed out by Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) on November 12, stems from a blocked storm water drain, as confirmed by Johannesburg Water (JW) on November 19.

JW spokesperson Nombuso Shabalala explained: “The team spent Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday locating the leak. The source of the water running down the road is a blocked storm water drain.”

The excavation, which is more than three months old, continues, not only to be an eyesore, but a danger to pedestrians walking on the pavement.

Shabalala added that the water was running down the road, instead of going into the storm water drain, making it appear as if it’s a pipe leak.

JW noted that it informed JRA about the blocked storm water drain.

The publication reached out to JRA, and will publish their response accordingly.
