The Rosebank Homeless Association is grateful for constant donations

The Rosebank Homeless Association chair, Tessa Weakley, said partnerships contributed to the association’s success in 2025.
“The Rosebank Management District, Hyprop, Africrest, churches, SAPS, community newspapers, local businesses, Kingsmead College, Wits research, The Zone and the community at large have helped us enormously. The Community Collection Box, where clothes and blankets are donated by the community, also play an important role in keeping people warm and clothed.”
Weakley added that the association was small and staffed by volunteers.

“We don’t begin to address the huge problem of homelessness and unemployment in our area. We will, however, continue to help where we can, as will the churches, the business community, and members of the public. Many people are working in different areas of need, and we all need to work together.”
She highlighted that the organisation distributed donations to Immaculata Shelter, Cross the Divide, Bokamoso Foundation, and other local organisations.
“We look to help people to upskill themselves, and have been able to assist some students, mainly through short, practical courses. We also help by funding ID applications, plus other paperwork, regularly.”

The sewing project run by the association is still going strong. They encourage residents of Immaculata to learn sewing skills and use the facility to make items to sell.
Any donations of fabric or haberdashery from the public are welcome.
Weakley concluded that there was a need for a greater awareness among public officials, in local and national government, of the needs of the homeless. “We sincerely trust that this will result in more facilities being made available. An extensive programme of new shelters and training programmes is needed urgently.”
