The tournament, renowned for testing skill, stamina, and strategy, requires each provincial squad to field six boys and six girls to compete across singles, doubles, and mixed doubles matches. Gauteng Central’s young athletes excelled across the board, combining individual brilliance with seamless teamwork to dominate the competition.
The final showdown saw them overpower the Western Cape Cavaliers A team, winning by an emphatic margin of 25 games to 11 to secure the national title.
Guided by manager and coach Merisa Steyn, alongside coach Jason Fletcher, the Gauteng Central squad was a formidable force.
The A Girls’ team included Hidaya Japarova (CambriLearn), Georgia Frankish (St Stithians), Ava Molyneaux (St Mary’s Waverley), Gabriella Miniggio (Dainfern College), Teha Maharaj (Kyalami), and Zingce Mvana (St Peter’s).
On the boys’ side, the A team featured Zachary Joyce (Muldersdrift), Takuto Kasahara (Parkview), Cole Joyce (Muldersdrift), Anroux V Gaalen (Fairland), Anesh Naidoo (Trinity Glenvista), and Liam De Wet (Unika).

The talent on display did not go unnoticed. Four players – Zachary, Takuto, Cole Joyce, and non-travelling reserve Hidaya – were selected for the prestigious South African U13 schools team, recognising them as some of the country’s brightest tennis prospects.
“This victory is a testament to the dedication and hard work of these young athletes,” said Steyn. “They maintained their composure under pressure, fought for every point, and demonstrated exceptional teamwork throughout the tournament.”
The tournament, held in the City of Roses, highlighted not only the competitive spirit but also the camaraderie and sportsmanship of South Africa’s young tennis talent.
Gauteng Central’s return home with the national championship trophy is a proud moment for their schools, families, and the province, heralding a bright future for tennis in the country.
