The Wanderers Club takes Braamfischerville Badminton Club under its shuttles

Braamfischerville Badminton Club members will train at the Wanderers Club until next month.

To grow badminton, not only at the Wanderers Club, but within the community, the Wanderers Club hosted a handover ceremony of badminton kit and equipment to the newly established Braamfischerville Badminton Club in Soweto.

The initiative, on January 24, was made possible through the support of Badminton South Africa (BSA), the Johannesburg District Badminton Association (JDBA), and the Wanderers Club.

Together, they are backing the development of this new club to grow badminton in Soweto and make the sport more accessible to aspiring players.

Wanderers Sports Club vice chairperson John Galatis said: “The sporting club aims to promote and have initiatives that expand the sport beyond the club, which is a great honour. With this initiative, we plan on infiltrating as many areas in the community as possible.”

BSA’s Susan Van Der Mescht added that it was always a great opportunity to collaborate with a grassroots-level club; in this case, it was Braamfischerville.

Founder of Braamfischerville Badminton Club Lucky Nkabinde said he was excited about the sport being in Soweto. “I believe the establishment of the sport in the township is necessary, especially in Soweto, where it is completely new. It will play an important role in unearthing raw talent in badminton.”
