Queens Road in Parktown continues to deteriorate
The poor state of Queens Road comes on the back of a lack of reinstatement after Johannesburg Water repaired a leak a year ago.
Queens Road in Parktown continues to deteriorate and erode, a year after Johannesburg Water repaired a three-year-old leak on the busy road.
The publication first reported on the road when a resident, Maria Mena, expressed her concerns about the clean water that was being wasted through the leak.

Last year, Johannesburg Water said it would be in contact with Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) to tar the road.
A reporter visited the road on February 2, where the damage caused by the leak, and the degradation since its repair, was evident in the form of unevenness and erosion.

Mena explained that the poor state of the road was the cause of some of the crashes. “Nothing has been done to fix or tar the road since Johannesburg Water fixed the leak. This has become a danger to motorists and has caused some crashes on this road, because some cars try to slow down when approaching the eroded part of the road.”
Ward 67 councillor David Nthako said he was aware of the state of the road and has been in contact with the JRA, “I will take up the matter with the regional director.”
The latest concern is the absence of a storm water drain, resulting in stagnant water from heavy rainfall on the corner of Princess Place and Queens Road.
The publication reached out to JRA and will update the article with their response.
