Wanderers Club is calling on hockey enthusiasts to join their team

Wanderers Club's hockey open day saw 6 new members join.

Locals and hockey fanatics from university are invited to join the Wanderers Club’s upcoming hockey trials in February.

The club hosted a hockey open day on January 24 with aims to expand the social and competitive teams.

Club member and hockey player, Bokang Raselomane, said, “Today aimed to get as many people coming from university as possible, either people that are moving back to Joburg or into Joburg or anyone looking for a new club to join.”

Raselomane added that he was happy with the turnout. “We’ve got about five to six new people who came down to sign up, and we’re hoping to see them this coming week at trials.”

For the next three weeks, the club will hold trials, which will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Men’s trials will be on Tuesdays from 18:30, and for the women it will be on Thursdays at 20:00

“No one should be scared, Wanderers is open to every member, and we have social teams and the competitive team where people can see where they fit in.”

Kgomotso Modiba, a former Durban University of Technology hockey player, said she jumped at the opportunity to join the club.

“I’m interested in joining the Wanderers team because I’ve been seeing it a lot on social media, and I think it’s a great team that always wins games. I’d also like to stay fit, and I believe the sport will help me do that.”
