Frere Road adds to growing number of excavations in the city

Ward 87 councillor Kye Jacobs says its unacceptable that excavations are left unattended for months, or even years.

Parktown’s dangerous excavation on Frere Road has added to the growing number of unresolved reinstatements, not only in the ward, but in the city at large.

A reporter met with Ward 87 councillor Kyle Jacobs on February 4 at the site. They saw for themselves that rubble filled the middle of the road, making it difficult for cars to get through, with the excavation taking over the left-hand side of the road.

Jacobs said: “This is another example of an unresolved reinstatement which forms part of many, not only on the ward, but in the city. Johannesburg Water and Johannesburg Roads Agency continuously fail to execute their duties.

Excavations often are unattended for months, or even years, without getting resolved. “

The ward councillor concluded that the hazardous excavation was unacceptable as this is a safety hazard, not only for residents, but for motorists as well.
