Growing number of excavations in Ward 87 concerns ward councillor
Ward 87 councillor Kyle Jacobs is growing more concerned about the number of excavations in his ward, as well as neighbouring Ward 117, which also effects his residents.
Ward 87 councillor Kyle Jacobs continues to be frustrated with the growing number of longstanding excavations in the ward.

Jacobs noted that although the unresolved reinstatement in question falls in another ward, it is located on the boundary, and does have a direct impact on the residents in his ward. “These longstanding excavations have become widespread and often remain unresolved for months, despite repeated escalations to both Johannesburg Water and Johannesburg Roads Agency. The usual response is that each entity shifts responsibility to the other.”

The ongoing back-and-forth results in growing backlogs that become increasingly difficult to resolve.
Jacobs said, in addition, ward councillors were seeing repeated pipe bursts at the same locations. “We had hoped that MMCs Kenny Kunene and Jack Sekwaila would take this issue seriously, and intervene to address the growing reinstatement backlog. Unfortunately, there appears to be a complete lack of interest in resolving this problem, and there is no clear plan in place to deal with the backlog.”
The publication reached out to Johannesburg Water and Johannesburg Roads Agency and will update the article with their responses.
